bio

Born in São Paulo/Brazil in 1963. Studied Architecture Universidade de Sao Paulo.

My work has always been closely linked to spatial constructions and the relationships between the form and context in which it is inserted – both in expressiveness and in questioning common sense. My first sculptures in the 90's were made in welded metal, with a greater formal appeal, where the speed of welding efficiently solved the desire to build and communicate.

In the 90s and early 00s, I did works in France and England, in the early days of digital art, with video and the internet – with a critical approach to communication and the invasion of information that became available with the internet . From 2012 onwards, back in Brazil, I developed a series on the relationship between images and the hashtags that indexed them, with a reflection on the synthesis of the imaginary in the construction of algorithms.

More recently, the work has gained greater reflection on human relationships and social conditions. Recently, returning to the more traditional supports of drawing, and especially sculpture, I became more interested in the expressiveness of wood, particularly when burnt, using the Shou Sugi Ban technique. Excluded figures and worlds that live parallel to the reality of art arise to question the reasoning. The shape of faces and bodies that invade, that don't belong, and that are generally ignored.
